Some people eat to live and some live to eat. Food & Nutrition are two words which have been often misunderstood and followed in an improper way. The internet now has become the reason why certain diet freaks go in a different direction and end up confused and don’t reach their goals. Every now and then, some established magazine or a renowned health guru will talk about the “ultimate diet”. But the truth which we need to know is that the perfect diet is already in front of us, and it’s called a balanced diet.

What is the perfect nutrition?

The biggest mystery. Well it’s not. A perfect nutritional diet consists of the right amount of calories to keep all the body functioning in place is considered a balanced diet. Though it isn’t complicated, the first rule is to never ever skip breakfast, yes you heard it right and you may have read and heard about this at a lot more other places, but it’s the truth and is a vital need of the human body. Though some people won’t admit to it, and will say that skipping breakfast hasn’t really affected their metabolism but on a cellular level it really has.

If we go back to the basics, the perfect nutritional diet has six food groups like you learnt in the fifth grade which provides all the essential nutrients which is needed for survival, they are:

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are considered to be the main source of energy for the body. There are two main forms of carbohydrates which are simple(sugars) and complex(starches). Fiber, also falls under this category of carbohydrates, also there are 4 calories per every gram of carb which can be found in whole grains, fruits and vegetables and items like dairy. One should ensure that 60% of calories is consumed through carbs. An average man needs 1200 calories who fall under the age of 19 and 30. An active man whose job is physically demanding can add 300 calories more in their carb intake. One has to keep in mind that refined sugars though are carbohydrates have zero nutrients but contains calories, it’s is recommended to choose brown sugar or honey in your meal.

Fats

Fat is another food group which is essential for survival and it makes up the cell walls and is needed to transport and absorb fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. One has to ensure that their main source of fat is unsaturated which can be gained through meat, eggs, fish and milk.

Protein

The ultimate and the main building block of the body, a conversation starter amongst men. Protein is essential as it builds everything from your skin, hair, nails and of course your muscles. For physically active men who have a daily calorie intake of 3000 to 3500 calories, their protein intake should be around 640 calories in their diet. As protein keeps one satiated, it’s a good choice to include protein in every meal. A nice protein shake after a good workout will do the job of post workout refueling
